Our 2014 Purple Heart has aromas of plum, cinnamon and cassis with floral notes. Flavors of red and black berries give way to hints of dried currant and balanced tannins. Deep ruby-red in appearance, this wine has a silky texture and a long, lingering finish. It will drink beautifully upon release and gain complexity and grace over 4-5 years.
Beginning in April, 2017, John Moynier became the sole winemaker for Purple Heart Wines. John developed the 2015 blend and his name will appear on the label for this vintage. He served in the US Air Force from 1968 to 1972 where he was a Squadron Training NCO. He is a graduate of the University of California, Davis, with a Bachelor of Fermentation Sciences and has been a winemaker at C. Mondavi & Family since 1985.
John's dedication to winemaking, his military service and his passion for Purple Heart Wines are aligned with the objectives of the Purple Heart Foundation. These qualities make him a natural fit to lead the effort to produce our wonderful Bordeaux style Purple Heart red blend wine.
America's ultra-premium cause marketing wine pays tribute to the brave men and women who keep us safe
The Purple Heart - no honor better symbolizes the bravery, determination and selflessness of the military men and women serving our country. It is this most noble medal that inspired us to honor our wounded and fallen heroes with an exceptional, purple-hearted blend of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon grown in America's greatest wine region – The Napa Valley. Not only does this wine serve as a worthy tribute to our brave heroes, it also allows us to give something back. We are proud to make an annual donation to the Purple Heart Foundation, an organization dedicated to serving the unmet needs of military men, women and families. Our military personnel make huge sacrifices. When crafting this wine, we made no sacrifices. It is an uncompromising wine made under the close stewardship of the Peter Mondavi Sr. Family, whose patriarch is a proud veteran of World War II. Join us as we lift a glass and pay tribute to our brave military heroes and thank them for their profound contributions.
