Tasting Notes Deep crimson. Vibrant blackberries and cherries, with nuances of anise and sage, accents of chocolate and sweet oak. Intense flavors of black cherries and currants, framed by dusty tannins providing an elegant and lingering finish.
Winemaker Notes Estancia is a founding member of the Meritage Society, an association formed in 1988 by a group of American vintners to establish a quality wine designation for wines blended from the traditional 'noble' Bordeaux varietals. The 2007 vintage release marks Estancia's 20th Anniversary of producing this beautifully blended wine. The first release was crafted from grapes harvested in 1987, one year prior to the Meritage Society's foundation. Estancia's vineyards are located in the acclaimed appellation of Paso Robles. The infertile soils and rugged terrain of Estancia's Keyes Canyon Ranch, encourages the vines to yield small grape clusters with tiny berries packed full of flavor. This unique appellation is home to more extreme temperature swings than any other wine-growing region in California. During the day, the vines bask in the warm sunshine and at night they are soothed by a cool marine layer from the Pacific Ocean.
Estancia Meritage is a sophisticated, rich, complex and luscious wine. A longer harvest with relatively consistent temperatures in 2007 made for an ideal growing season in Paso Robles. The 2007 harvest's consistently warm afternoons and cool nights produced an elegant, full-bodied wine with concentrated flavors and silky tannins.
