Winemaker Notes
Merlot is one of our most distinctive expressions, thanks to the nuances that vigneron Dave Koball has discovered in our vineyards. Biodynamic Merlot from our McNab Ranch comprises forty percent of this vintage’s blend with a strong representation from Mendocino vineyards such as our own Los Cerros. McNab has loamy, well-drained soils and an average elevation of 800 feet, which allows most of the blocks to experience the wonder of Mendocino days where temperature swings can vary by 50 degrees. This ranch provides fruit that reinforces our belief that organic farming makes better wines.

The heritage of Bordeaux can be experienced in this blend, with added touches of Syrah, Carignane and Zinfandel. Aged for 12 months with French and American oak with medium to medium plus toast, with 30% new oak.

The wine has aromas of black plums, dark cherries and cranberries with hints of toasty oak and vanilla spice. In the mouth, this wine has an elegant and restrained style with soft tannins and a long finish.
